Creating these bowls was an exercise in focussing on the process of forming a vessel that, in the words of my mentor Martin Peters, will “offer” the food out to the user, rather than simply “containing.” They also offer up my personal history; the magic and hidden processes that have aided me in my journey as a “self-taught” artist, and are the culmination of a lineage extending back, past the Leach and Hamada (English and Japanese folk-craft) pottery traditions, to which my mentors belong. These vessels are visual products of my various inspirations.
