woodfired ceramics
These pieces were made during a wild clay workshop led by Luigi Pullini at La Meridiana International School of Ceramics in March 2024. Using wild clay harvested by hand from the Tuscan mountainsides, wood ash from nearby olive groves and vineyards, and local feldspars (plus maybe one or two raw materials from the school’s stash), we formulated various clay bodies and glazes based on our knowledge of the land’s geochemical compositions and the matierials’ physical properties. We then wood-fired the pieces in one of the school’s train kilns. The results were unique and fully embodied the magic of the process.
